18th Title at the 2017 AUSTRALIAN OPEN FINAL in MELBOURNE.
With the loss of top
seeds NOVAK DJOKOVIC and ANDY MURRAY (who were pathetic), the door
was opened for a new champion to be crowned. It was a moment for
a noughties throwback when ROGER and RAFA loved playing each
other.
The womens' game was
dominated by the loss of major tennis players MARIA SHARAPOVA,
PETRA KVITOVA, VICTORIA AZARENKA et al. The other contenders
cancelled out each other through the rounds to leave the door
wide open for SERENA WILLIAMS to win her 23rdtitle with the help of sister VENUS WILLIAMS.

Both he and RAFA
suffered an ANNUS TERRIBILIS for 2016 with long bouts out of the game
due to injury.
ROGER looked very good
through the rounds while other contenders stumbled or neutralised
each other in match ups.
RAFA, despite his skill
and talent had done extremely well to reach a major final for such a
long time out of the game with injury.
ROGER probably was the
right man to win the final because of his talent through the rounds.
RAFA should be proud to have reached the final.
If either player's form
dropped, it would have opened the door for the other to win. ROGER
needed to play winners, serve well and show something different to
his long time rival.
RAFA probably needed to
be more adaptable to the FEDERER game as RAFA likes to conduct all
sorts of unnecessary magic on the ball.
ROGER played only 13
hours on court prior this final, RAFA played 19. Despite RAFA's
younger age to ROGER by 5 years, the master plied his trade to
perfection against a very dangerous opponent.
ROGER showed more
vulnerabilities at the ripe old age of 35 which was to be expected,
but his body held out to lift the trophy for the 5th time
in his long career.
